Kept stores your photos and files and helps you find them again by describing them. This page explains what we collect, why, and what we never do.
The short version
- Your files are private to you. They are encrypted in transit and at rest, and served only to your account.
- Kept's servers read your files to make previews and to search them for you. That is the only reason they are read.
- We never sell or share your files, and never use them to train AI models.
- Delete a file and it is removed from Kept, with its preview and search data.
What we collect
- Your email address, to sign you in with a one-time code and to contact you about your account.
- Your files, exactly as you add them, including what is inside them.
- Details Kept works out from your files: a small preview image, when a photo was taken and where (if the photo records it), the text inside documents, and a search index of what photos show.
- Technical data: your IP address, used to limit abuse such as repeated sign-in attempts.
- Connected accounts (when connectors launch): access tokens for the services you connect, such as Google Drive or Dropbox, stored encrypted and used only to copy the files you chose.
How we use it
To store your files, show them to you, make previews, and answer your searches. Searches run on Kept's own servers; we don't keep a history of what you search for.
Who else handles it
We use a small number of providers to run Kept: [Cloudflare] for file storage, [Resend] to send sign-in emails, and [hosting provider] to run our servers. They process data only on our behalf.
How long we keep it
Your files stay until you delete them or close your account. [Backups: confirm how long deleted data can remain in backups.] Sign-in codes expire after 10 minutes.
Your choices
- Download any of your files at any time.
- Delete files at any time.
